Fried Green Tomatoes and Okra

· 4 green tomatoes
· 1 pound okra
· 3 eggs
· ½ cup all-purpose flour
· ½ cup cornmeal
· Salt and pepper, to taste
· ½ teaspoon garlic powder
· 1 cup cooking oil
· Salt and pepper, to taste

1. Slice green tomatoes into slices about ¼-inch thick. Cut okra into 1/4 –inch pieces.
2. In a medium bowl, beat eggs with a whisk. In another bowl, add flour, cornmeal, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
3. Dip the tomato slices in the egg and then in the flour/cornmeal mixture.
4. Heat the cooking oil in an electric or iron skillet until it just starts to bubble. Cook tomatoes on one side until golden brown and then repeat on the other side. Drain on a paper towel.
5. Repeat with okra slices.
